Plastics are the most common element found in the ocean today. Hundreds of marine species have been negatively impacted by marine debris, which can harm or cause death of an animal if they become entangled, impacting the habitats they depend on. Because of this, we are seeing many retailers starting to offer products that eliminate the need for single-use plastics.

Did you know that one single-use make-up wipe can take up to 100 years on average to decompose? They are often made up of non-biodegradable plastic fibres such as polyester that contaminate our oceans. Not only do they take a long time to degrade, but many also are not disposed of correctly, with millions of wipes being flushed into waterways, causing havoc on ocean life. By using Face Halo, a reusable face washer available from PricelinePharmacy, you will not only help save our oceans from contamination but also use a product that is free of chemicals to help protect your own skin, so it’s a win-win!

If you haven’t already invested in a reusable drink bottle, then what are you waiting for? Less than one third of all plastic bottles are recycled. So, by using a reusable water bottle, you could prevent over 100 plastic bottles being discarded annually. Kathmandu have a wide variety of drink bottles to suit everyone’s needs. From insulated drink bottles to kid-friendly, they have something for everyone in your family to use.
As coffee lovers ourselves, we know how important it is to get that caffeine kick each morning, but do you realise how damaging single-use coffee cups are? Australians throw out 2.7 million single-use/disposable coffee cups every day, equating to over a billion annually. Many single-use cups are not disposed of correctly, becoming a contributor to our water-way pollution. We know that everyone has different preferred sizes for coffee, so that’s why Myer is your go-to shop for all things reusable coffee cups. They have a variety of brands to suit your personal needs.

With more and more cities starting to impose bans on single-use plastics such as straws and cutlery, now is the time to invest in quality products to use instead. It is estimated that Australians use nearly 10 million single-use plastic straws daily. If we were to stop using them, we could save approximately 3.5 billion from entering our oceans and harming wildlife. Due to the introduction of reusable straws and cutlery, you can find them in many different materials to suit your personal needs. You can buy stainless steel and silicone straws from Typo, and reusable cutlery set from Target now!
Head in Centre now to pick up these products and be a part of helping preserve our ocean-life.
