National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. Running during August, it provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Australian scientists to the world of knowledge. It also aims to encourage an interest in science pursuits among the public, and to encourage younger people to be fascinated by the world we live in.

National Science Week 2

Visit Canberra Centre to enjoy a variety of hands-on science activities on display during the weekends of National Science Week (13-14 and 20-21 August). Discover the exciting science behind growing mushrooms, engineering with lego, geology, space, robotics and much more.  There will be something for everyone, to broaden your knowledge and learn something new. The National Science Week activity will take place on Ground Level, City Walk from 10-4pm daily.

National Science Week 3

Young Engineers Canberra - Sunday 21 August

This Science Week, Young Engineers Canberra will be hosting workshops to experience engineering and technology in-action. Register for one of our free hands-on LEGO Robotics workshops or drop by our stall to explore our advanced robotics models of a sustainable farm, a smart home or a robotic arm to find inspiration in real-world solutions and discover the possibilities of education in STEM.
Sessions will run on Sunday 21 August.

National Science Week 4

Geoscience Australia - Saturday 13 August

How did the fossil of a sea creature end up underneath the Canberra Centre? Find out how and see the fossil for yourself at the Geoscience Australia pop up! You can also see a selection of extraordinary minerals and win some great prizes with a colouring competition. 


National Science Week 5

Academy of Interactive Entertainment - Saturday 20 August

Come along and take part in some fun Virtual Reality (VR) student games and discover more about the science behind game creation with the Academy of Interactive Entertainment.


National Science Week 6

Canberra Daleks & Robots - Saturday 20 August

Canberra Daleks & Robots will showcase several custom built robots including a Dalek, 3D printed robots InMoov and Pepper, and Meccano Meccanoids. Visitors can find out how they were assembled, try out various commands, and learn how they are programmed.


National Science Week 7

Australian Geospatial Intelligence Organisation - Saturday 13 August

The Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation (AGO) is the lead agency for geospatial data, information, and intelligence for Defence and the National Intelligence Community.  This includes the collection, analysis, and dissemination of imagery and geospatial information to describe, assess, and visually depict physical features and geographically referenced activities in the air, land, maritime, and space domains. If you are curious to know more about AGO, make sure you visit their display at the Canberra Centre on 13 August 2022.

National Science Week 8

Geological Society of Australia (ACT Division) - Sunday 14 August

Have you ever wondered about the origins and evolution of the landscapes and mountains around Canberra and how old they are? The Geological Society of Australia will have a booth at the Civic shopping mall on Sunday 14 August with displays of rock types and fossils from around Canberra, including the soon to be adopted ACT Fossil Emblem, a 425 million year old trilobite from a drillhole under the Treasury Building, Batocara michelli.
