Carrie Graf AM

Australian Women’s Basketball Coach

Introducing Carrie Graf AM, a celebrated Australian basketball coach and former player. With her love for basketball starting during her early years, Carrie began her professional career at 15 with the Nunawading Spectres, winning six WNBL championships and earning Rookie of the Year in 1983.

While she was a champion on the court, Carrie’s real passion lies in coaching, leading teams like the Sydney Flames, University of Canberra Capitals and Australian Opals to success. She was assistant coach of the Australian Opals at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games before being appointed head coach and leading the Opals to bronze at the 2012 London Games. Carrie was also the first female Australian coach in the WNBA, coaching the Phoenix Mercury for 5 seasons. A two-time WNBL Coach of the Year, she has been inducted into the Basketball Australia and ACT Sport Halls of Fame.

Carrie’s message to women and girls this International Women’s Day is: “Keep going, don’t quit. We have to keep going until we see success, however that may look around the world.”

Carrie is now the Director of Sport at the University of Canberra and a WNBL commentator.
